Welcome
Hi and thanks for your interest in Downrite Drilling Ltd.
Downrite Drilling has been operating for over
22 years
and has met all challenges and conditions in the Auger drilling world.

During the winter of 2005 we added a third drill to the list. We now have choices of two Track Drills (also called Bombardiers), for soft and uneven sites, and a self contained Truck Drill for asphalt or hard flat sites.

Truck Drill
Built on a brand new truck, this drill offers comfort and ease to both driller and your field personnel. The truck is mounted with a double flashing light-bar on the cab for safer roadside and highway drilling programs. This drill rig offers
an Engineer-cab which has lights and heat for comfortable sample analysis and book work. Running water just outside the door with soap and towels makes your day more enjoyable. A large water tank is deck mounted along with a steam cleaner and a generator for power of 110 and 220V. We feature an on-board wash-water containment system which we can place into drums
or dump in an area directed by your personnel.

The Truck Drill is set-up for hollow-stem and standard auger, along with an auto hammer for SPT and DCPT use.

This drill should be all you need for most of your drilling jobs.

Track Drills (Bombardiers)
These drills are mounted on a 2003 muskeg carrier, which is in turn,
carried on a brand new haul trucks for dependable delivery to your sites.
The Bombardier has been the backbone to our company for many years and with the regular maintenance schedule we adhere to, many more problem free drilling jobs will be completed in the future. These drills are compact but have many features of the truck.

With these drills we can do hollow stem and standard auger work along with SPT and DCPT testing. These drills can be backed up with a portable decon unit which can come along with the service truck upon request.

Dynamic Cone Penetrometer Test
This test is achieved by driving a cone with an automatic hammer
(140 lbs x 30 inch drop). Rods are marked at one foot intervals and are added until desired depth or blow count is reached. This test determines soil density and or pile type and length, to approximately a 60 foot depth. The cone, driven by the auto hammer (having a 97% efficiency ), is directly comparable to the SPT values obtained by a rope and cathead hammer which has been corrected to 60% energy (60 % being the average for rope and cathead hammers).

At further depths some rod friction should be realized varying with soil conditions. It is suggested that when the Auto Hammer is used to drive SPT’s the field value should also be corrected by a factor of 97/60.

It is noteworthy that where blow count (N value) is the prime purpose of the drilling, the cone provides a quicker and more accurate rate of information with a higher degree of repeatability than SPT sampling.
