The 2008 Downrite Fishing Derby
Dear Clients (FISHERS)
Friday night it poured rain and there was
a chance the River would be blown out (muddy), but luck was on
our side and the weather was awesome for the whole day. Few fish
were moving so the the prospect of catching was slim. Most of
us got onto a Chum but the Coho were almost not there for us. The
morning was spent at the Wilson Hole with beautiful water and weather
conditions. At about noon I ventured out onto the Sumas Canal to
try a little trolling but with 2 hrs. to go and only one bite we
came back to the shop for a wonderful barbecue that Ben Timms had
prepared. He had Halibut, Prawns, Steak, Salmon and smoked Salmon
with a nice Caesar
Salad and Potato Salad on the side. Topping that with a few brewskies and
wow what a meal!!!
Since no
Hatchery Coho were brought in, the Cash prizes for first and
second were put away till next year, and they will be doubled
for the 2009 Derby.
The prize
table had some nice items to be won. We put our names in a basket
and drew till everything was dispersed. Chelsea Lynn of Levelton
Consultants got first draw
and won a nice Fly Rod and Case.
I personally want to thank those who
showed up to try their luck
and a special thanks to Ben Timms for
putting on such a wonderful spread.
The Derby
will, of course, be on again in 2009
but
a little earlier in the season as it will be a Pink Salmon
year.
Please keep
posted via our Downrite Website, as
the Derby is planned for either:
Saturday,
September 12th or
Saturday, September 19th 2009.
Thanks
again to all contestants.
